Noisy water pipes?

by | May 23, 2019 | Maintenance Advice

Noisy water pipes can be irritating, especially when they are banging, rattling, and vibrating in the middle of the night.

There can be a whole host of reasons why water pipes are noisy, and these can include:
Loose water pipes – this is often found in older houses, where over time they have come loose from fittings
High water pressure – if water is pushed into your appliances at too high a pressure, not only will it create noisy pipes, it will also likely cause damage to the internal components of the appliance
Water hammer – this occurs when you shut off the water suddenly, and the fast moving water rushing through the pipe is brought to a quick halt, which creates a hammer noise.

Correct balancing is a great way of ensuring your heating system works correct and efficiently. Balancing ensures that water flows equally to individual radiators and prevents cold or hot spots emerging (or loss of heating entirely). The efficiency of an unbalanced system is drastically reduced, increasing energy usage and bills.
