Boiler Servicing… why is it important?
Here at Bumblebee Plumbing and Heating, we take boiler servicing very seriously… you could say we are absolutely buzzing about it… but why is it important to have a service completed each year?
A boiler service is much like an MOT for your boiler. It can highlight serious issues and can protect you against expensive repairs by catching issues early.
Safety!
A boiler can develop faults over its lifetime like any mechanical appliance wear and tear can take its toll. We highlight any small issues and deal with them before they grow into bigger and costlier issues.
Carbon Monoxide (the silent killer) doesn’t smell, it can cause brain damage, and in some cases… kill. The only way to protect yourself and your loved ones – is to fit a carbon monoxide alarm. We will install these upon request but they can also be purchased at any reputable DIY store.
Always check for a CE mark as many online stores sell carbon monoxide alarms that are not fit for purpose.

Warranty.
In order to maintain your boilers manufacturer warranty, it is mandatory that you have a boiler service every year.
No service will mean even – if you are still within the warranty period, you will have to pay for the repair of any fault that occurs with the boiler. A cost that can easily be avoided by getting it annually serviced.
Efficiency.
Energy prices are always increasing, servicing your boiler annually makes sure that it runs at its best possible efficiency.
What is involved in a Service, and how long does it take?
- Inspection – We will thoroughly check the boiler for any leaks or corrosion and change gaskets and washers where necessary.
Clean any filters and run the boiler through a series of tests to ensure peak performance.
- Flue – We make sure the flue pathways are clear and products of combustion are safely terminated. We will also check that it is securely fitted using current best practice.
- Pressure and expansion Check – This check is often overlooked. We check the system pressure and assure that the expansion vessel is fully charged. Then test the system for any leaks.
- Start-Up – We will run the system through a full start-up sequence both in high and low demand modes to ensure that everything is functioning correctly and check the radiators are all heating up and clear any excess air.
A service should always be carried out by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
